Our beloved Manuel Roberto Gomes "Papay Bebete" 83, passed away January 22,2022. Born in Mato Grande Ilha Brava, Cape Verde son of Juvelina Gomes and Joao Fortes.
Bebete immigrated to the United States April 23, 1976. He worked at American Insulated Wire Corp for many years and retired in 2013. Our loving Bebete was an avid bisca card player. He loved to listen to music and dancing. He would bet his chances with lottery by scratching tickets. His favorite pass time was going to Dunkin' Donuts for small regular coffee with corn muffin on the side.
He is survived by his siblings Francelina Dolivramento, Maria Teresa Gomes, Armando De Pina, and Jose Gomes. He was the loving father of Maria Anita "Nity" Dos Santos, Guilherme "Billy" Gomes, Jovelina "Jove" Pires, Francisco "Frank" Gomes, Suzanne Marie "Suzy" Gomes, Steven Gomes, the late Jorge Manuel Gomes, Maria Teresa "Teja" Marini, and baby Daniel. Our dear Papay is proudly survived by his 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Bebete is also survived by his longtime spouse Maria "Zinha" Barros and mother of child Libania "Lily" De Sena.
Bebete is dancing in heaven with his children Jorge, Teja, Daniel and the late mother of his child, Suzanne Grondin. Bebete was proud to carry the last name Gomes and proudly the Gomes legacy will honor his memory in our hearts.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Thursday, January 27th from 9:00 – 11:30am at Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln, R.I. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, 661 Prospect St., Pawtucket.
